The best school location on Bulabog Lagoon

Islakite is the northern school on the lagoon—and that is why we believe we have the best location of all the kitesurf and wingfoil schools on Bulabog Beach. During most of Boracay’s main Amihan season, our position puts riders and students upwind of the busier area, with more open water directly in front of us.

Why the northern location is the best

Our advantage begins with geography. From roughly November to April, Amihan is the dominant seasonal wind pattern in Boracay (approximately 85–90% of the time during the main season). Its usual northeast to east-northeast, side-onshore angle gradually carries many riders downwind and concentrates traffic farther south. Because Islakite is the northern school on the lagoon, our riders and students begin upwind of that congestion and can use the more open area beside and north of the school.

The map makes the advantage clear: We are located beside the quieter area of the lagoon and close to the beginner sandbank. During Amihan, many riders gradually drift into the busier area farther downwind.
1

Start from the best position

Islakite’s northern location places you upwind of the other school areas and much of the lagoon traffic.

2

Use the open playground

Ride straight or slightly upwind. Lessons can also use the nearby sandbank when conditions allow.

3

Stay away from the crowd

During Amihan, many riders gradually lose ground and collect farther downwind.

Why riders drift downwind

Most recreational riders do not spend their entire session deliberately working farther upwind. As they ride, stop, restart or practise, they tend to drift downwind. With Amihan blowing predominantly from the northeast, this naturally brings many people into the busier area of the lagoon downwind from Islakite.

Because our school is farther north, you begin your session before that concentration of riders. If you hold your line or ride slightly upwind, a large part of the lagoon opens in front of you without first crossing the busier area.

This is especially useful for independent kitesurfers and wingfoilers who value room to make longer runs, practise and choose their line.

A quieter teaching area near the sandbank

For lessons, our team generally works north of the school, near the sandbank, when conditions allow.

In our team’s experience, this keeps students apart from much of the traffic that has collected downwind—often leaving the teaching area separated from around three quarters of the riders farther south. That additional space helps instructors focus on the student, choose an appropriate practice line and reduce unnecessary interaction with independent riders.

At the right tide, the nearby sandbank gives us another useful area for lessons. Your instructor still chooses the exact teaching area according to wind, tide, water depth, traffic and your level.

Practical advantages off the water

Direct beach access

The school is directly on Bulabog Beach, so lessons, rental equipment, storage and launch assistance begin from one beach base. Our wide beach area provides more usable space and is especially helpful at high tide.

Easy to reach

There is access from the main road, and White Beach is roughly an eight-minute walk away.

Stay between sessions

Use the school facilities, wash and store equipment, or relax and eat at Cathy’s Bistro between sessions.

Questions about our location

Which kitesurf school has the best location on Bulabog Beach?

Islakite has the best strategic school location on Bulabog Lagoon during the dominant Amihan season because it is the northern school. The usual northeast to east-northeast wind gradually moves riders downwind, while Islakite starts upwind beside the quieter area and close to the beginner sandbank.

Why does being the northern school matter?

During the dominant northeast to east-northeast Amihan wind, many riders gradually move downwind and gather farther south. Starting from Islakite gives riders access to a more open part of the lagoon by riding straight or slightly upwind, before reaching the busier area.

Is this advantage relevant throughout the kitesurfing season?

Yes, through most of the main season. Amihan is Boracay’s dominant seasonal wind pattern from roughly November to April, and northeast to east-northeast winds create the side-onshore drift that favours Islakite’s location.

Why is the location useful for beginner lessons?

When conditions allow, Islakite teaches north of the school near the sandbank. This area is often separated from much of the rider traffic that has drifted downwind, giving instructors and students more room to work.

Is the northern area always quieter?

It is normally quieter during the predominant northeast and east-northeast Amihan setup, but no part of the lagoon is guaranteed to be empty. Direct easterly or southeast wind, tide, water depth and daily traffic can change which area is most suitable. The team assesses the conditions each day.
